Florence is one of Colorado's oldest towns, founded in 1872 along the Arkansas River in eastern Fremont County. It earned the nickname "Antique Capital of Colorado" thanks to its downtown district filled with antique shops, galleries, and restored historic buildings. The town grew around coal mining and oil production — Colorado's first commercial oil well was drilled nearby in 1862. (Wikipedia)
Today Florence blends small-town charm with outdoor access. The Pathfinder Park along the Arkansas River offers walking trails and picnic areas. Historic Main Street hosts seasonal events, farmers markets, and community gatherings. Nearby Newlin Creek Trail and Phantom Canyon Road provide hiking and scenic drives. The town is also close to the Royal Gorge and Canon City attractions.
Florence's housing is predominantly older construction from the early-to-mid 1900s, with thick walls and original ductwork that often leaks conditioned air. Newer homes on the outskirts are better insulated but still face the same elevation and climate challenges. Many homes have oversized or undersized HVAC systems from previous installations.
